“The payment you receive for sinning is death; but God’s free gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
I guess it’s like the old vaudeville routine: Good News/Bad News. First Banana says, “I got Good News/Bad News your mother-in-law just drove over a cliff!” Second Banana says,”What’s the Bad News!” Back to First Banana who replies, “She was in your new Cadillac.”
God made promises to mankind and He never has fail in any one of them. What God has promised, will come about whether you believe in it or not. When God has said that salvation is in His Son, that the world will come to its destined end and He offers us His blessings, all those have and will happen.
But there’s Good News/Bad News, too. The Good News is the gospel. That’s what it means in Greek. The Good News that Jesus has saved us and will continue to offer His blood to cover all sins by anybody anywhere. Yet there are those who think that they’ll squeak through at the last minute if they plead ignorance, misjudgment or “we didn’t have enough time, money or opportunity”! There are even those who think that as long as they believe in some kind of God somewhere in the Big Blue, they’re acceptable.
The Bad News is that God has set the standard for salvation in His Son’s name and not just what man thinks is a good idea. The sacrifice for our atonement was enormous: the very blood and body of the Son of God. There won’t be entrance into God’s Kingdom by mouthing, “I’m sure there’s a Supreme Being somewhere…!” Salvation’s requirements are clearly explained in the Word: believe, confess, repent, acknowledge, immersion and a new life of righteousness.
Good News/Bad News. Which one do you believe?
