“In His body, He carried our sins on the wooden cross. He wants us to quit sinning and live right. His wounds were used to heal us.” I Peter 2:24 (Simple English Bible)
I often wondered if Christians really understand how much the removal our sins cost God. Many times, I think we are more concerned with the perceived slights and insults made against us by our fellow humans that we are with the grief we cause the Holy Spirit when we sin. For some reason, I think that I take the forgiveness for my sins for granted. As if I deserve it. Or maybe as a “right”.
Christ wants us to quit sinning and live the righteous life. Is it that simple? Yes, I believe it is. I don’t think many Christians need to be educated as to what sin is. Perhaps it is more of a problem of rationalizing our faults and failures until they seem insignificant to someone else’s shortcomings. (“Hey, I’m not as bad as Joe Smith…look what he did!”)
Our sins cost God His only Son. Our sins were paid for and covered by the most expensive sacrifice in the entire history of mankind. Blood was shed by the innocent for the guilty.
I think I’ll bow my head and thank my Father for His precious provision for my sins. Won’t you join me?
Steve
