“Christ Himself is our peace….” Eph 2:14 (Simple English Bible)
The season of peace and goodwill to all men is over. So I guess we can return to our “normal” selves and leave this concept of Christmas behind, huh? I mean, if we have to practice this once a year for a few weeks while the cash registers jingle and the men in red suits ring their bells on the corner, it’s not too bad, right?
Our first peace must be with God. This cannot be negotiated in a treaty or bargained over point by point. This peace can only come through Christ, no one else. Jesus Himself is our peace!
This may be a wonderful inner experience to be at peace with God because of His Son but what is often missed is the peace that should exist within the family of believers. It is a visible expression of God’s peace within our hearts. Hostility has been replaced with unity. There is order and harmony in the community of Christ’s servants.
Peace is a calling as much as the call for holiness.
I sure hope you don’t have to wait until Christmas 2009 to express God’s peace in your life. May I be the first to wish you for this year?
