“All of the people felt much respect. They were praising God. They said, “A great prophet has come to us! and, God is taking care of His people.” Luke 7:16 (Simple English Bible)
People feel as if they’re being sidelined and not heard. This weekend, I met a few Christians who were concerned that they were being shunted to the side and left out of the loop for good jobs, company benefits and a pension plan. These are legitimate concerns, I agree — I, too, often wonder if I am adequately covered.
Luke records an incredible miracle performed by Jesus and after that, people could not stop talking about God and His son. Naturally, they were amazed and astounded. But they gave praise to God! They felt as if God was taking care of their needs.
I often wonder if today’s Christians feels the same. As much as we concentrate upon our social rights and obligations, I think that we spend too little time praising God and telling others how much He truly cares for us. Let’s face it, politicians, big companies, the government (local or otherwise) doesn’t seem to be doing such a good job.
Yet, we are His children, under His care! Isn’t that a thing to be praised? Shouldn’t we be praising His name a little bit more?
How about we all try this today? You and me!
Steve
