“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”    Thomas Alva Edison

Was it P.T. Barnum who once said that everybody has a scheme that doesn’t work? I’ve heard many schemes and plans for projects in my short years on this planet. Many of them were well-thought out and conceived with the best of intentions. But most of them failed or didn’t even get off the ground because of the lack of willing bodies to do the actual work.

Paul writes to the young pastor, Timothy, to encourage him to perform works of excellence. Not just good things but excellent things! And that takes hard work, elbow grease, stamina and determination. It means sacrifice, sweat and sore bodies.

God does the “impossible” through his believers, that band of dedicated, hard working servants. I believe that each Christian in every congregation should have a job, a task, no matter how big or small. Because God works through the ordinary to bring out the extraordinary. (Hey, it was a little boy’s lunch that turned into a feast for over 5,000!)

What extraordinary work of excellence will you do today?

Steve
