“God is our audience for worship!” Kirkegaard
I was in a worship service recently where a major gaffe occurred. Not only was the guy up front so embarrassed, even the worshippers were a little red, too. It happened in the middle of the service and there were twitters and guffaws, which, of course, didn’t help matters. Soon, I’d forgotten it but others discussed it afterwards as if it were such a terrible tragedy.
Perhaps I have the wrong end of the stick, but isn’t the true purpose of worship our offering to God? I know we sing songs (mine is somewhat off key), pray and listen to the Word being preached — I enjoy that very much, as I am sure most people do. However, I am supposed to be concentrating upon my praise and thanksgiving to my Father in Heaven. It is Him who is the focus. It is Him who is my salvation.
And, as His Son has stated, I must worship God in spirit and Truth.
There is no order of worship listed anywhere in the New Testament. There isn’t a set way to sing songs, pray or preach. Within each culture and church, it is left to the believers to choose their method of worshipping the Father.
And my focus should be upon Him, the giver of life!
Steve
