The only One called the Light

“He is the Light for all the people of the world to see and honor for Your people, Israel.” Luke 2:32 (Simple English Bible)

There are all kinds of names for religious leaders and those men who have started their own religions. They were called prophets, teachers, guides, masters, gurus, founders, yogis and other exhalted names. Of course, most of them bestowed these wonderful names upon themselves so that everyone would recognize that they are leaders and therefore, the men of wisdom who would lead the uneducated and uninformed.

I stand to be corrected but to my knowledge, Jesus was the only One called the Light. When Simeon said these words quoted in Luke’s gospel, he had been promised that he would not die until he saw God’s salvation (Jesus). And Simeon immediately recognized the baby when Mary and Joseph brought him to be circumcised. No one had to tell Simeon that this baby would be God’s Son. No human bestowed Christ’s name as the Light.

Simeon also recognized that Jesus wasn’t there just for the Jews. Christ was sent to all mankind, not a select group of people. Yes, He was born a Jew, yet brought God’s Light of truth to the entire world. We’re not simply followers of a self-proclaimed prophet or religious founder — we are following the Light, the only Light that was sent by God to man.
