“God saved us and has called us with a holy calling. This was not by
our efforts, it was by God’s own purpose and gracious love, which was
given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” II Tim 1:9 (Simple
English Bible)
It is difficult to imagine what existed before time began. It is like
the idea of what eternity is like. No beginning, no end. When the
Universe was created, time began. So what was it like before then? My
brain starts smoking inside my head whenever I try to consider the
answers to these questions….! Thank goodness, when my sons were
young, it didn’t occur to them to ask me!
Yet, before time began, God had a plan for us. Perhaps we were in His
mind when the world was created and so mankind was put into the
Garden of Eden. It only took ONE sin to have Adam and Eve ejected
from their paradise. Did God prepare for this eventuality? Did He
know that man was bound to fail? Good questions, all of them but they
aren’t the important issue.
That God provided His purposeful love and grace through Christ is why
we have the opportunity of salvation. It is His reaching down to us
that gives us hope, love, mercy, grace and freedom from sin. We can
never lift ourselves up through sacrifices, good works or will power.
Our fulfillment and promise is offered only through Jesus.
All accomplished before time began.
Wow, I still struggle with that!
