Thought for Monday

“And so we plough along, the fly said to the ox.” A fairy tale

John was enthusiastic. “A great idea, I’ll handle it!” His eagerness
was contagious and I decided to try and clear a space so that I could
also help. When I arrived at the appointed time, ready to lend a
hand, he wasn’t there. I knew that some people worked on “African
time” and so I waited. And waited. And waited. After two hours, I
realized it was a bust — he was supposed to bring the tools and
materials but neither him nor the other items were there.

I phoned, thinking he’d had an accident or was delayed for some
reason or another. I caught John at home — he’d decided to do it
another day, a vague time somewhere in the future. After weeks of
delay, I fetched the tools and materials, then found a few young
Christian men who helped so much that I found I had little to do!
After the task was completed, John was at the forefront, thanking
everyone in the church for appointing him to do the job.

Sometimes, talk isn’t cheap — it’s just worthless.

Christians should be men and women, bound by a common goal, reliable
and honest. Christians are servants, not seeking the praise of men or
recognition for their hard labors. Christians strive, focus, pray and
seek opportunities to glorify Jesus. After all, we are heading
towards Heaven and the prize of the Crown of Life, prepared for each
one.

I learned something else about waiting for John: the problem with
being punctual is that sometimes, I’m the only one there to
appreciate it.

Steve
