“In the past, Pilate and Herod (Antipas) had always been enemies. But
on that day, Herod and Pilate became friends.” Luke 25:12 (Simple
English Bible)
A missionary stood in a long line in the traffic department. He was
there to arrange the paperwork to sell his car because he was leaving
the country. The man who was buying the car learned that the
missionary was a Christian and leaving the next day. When they got to
the window to arrange the transfer of ownership, buyer didn’t stick
to the original asking price. He would only pay the missionary 10% of
what had been agreed — he said that Christians were greedy and the
missionary shouldn’t have come to his country in the first place!
The world has different standards than God’s. There will always be
those who will take advantage of Christians or anyone else. This
shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who believes in the Son of
God. The world and Christ are diametrically opposed to each other and
Christians will always be in the firing line.
Pontius Pilate and Herod Antipas had been enemies for many years. The
Jews and the Romans were always at odds with each other. But when
Jesus was sent to Pilate for trial, the Roman governor first sent the
carpenter’s son to Herod Antipas. This obviously pleased the despot
king very much — he’d always wanted to meet Jesus and see a miracle
firsthand. Our Lord didn’t oblige him and out of frustration, Herod
sent Jesus back to Pilate. The two evil men care nothing for justice
or righteousness. They were only concerned for themselves and their
power.
People in the world, whom we know, will also do the same thing. Their
minds aren’t on goodness or mercy, just their own position. \
But we belong to the King and serve at His whim. No matter who else
wants to take a bite out of us!
It’s who we are.
