It’s a small village along the southern coastline of the Western Cape in South Africa called Kleinmond. Capetownians drive the 90 minutes and rent a small cottage or cabin to spend a pleasant weekend near the warm Indian Ocean. Fishermen in particular like the rocky bluffs right at the sea’s edge to toss out their lines and enjoy the heady ocean air.
Steve had an impromptu birthday celebration there. Reinaldo and Lorna Rutter, co-workers at the children’s center (Bavumeleni) and Andre and Dawn Hildebrand from the Tuesday night Cape Bible Seminary class, rented a cottage. Steve came along and spent a day with them.A birthday wouldn’t be a birthday without a cake. But this time, there wasn’t one. So, Lorna and Dawn did the best they could with a large flat chocolate sponge cake. It was a time for laughter and levity.A long walk along the beach near the cliffs and rocks keeps the heart pumping and brings an appreciation of God’s great creation. At one part, there were so many discarded mussel shells that it filled the picture frame.It is important for people to have a time of relaxation. Christians, in particular, need to be able to step back from their endeavors and allow their minds to have fun, laugh and enjoy fellowship with one another.This was one such occasion.
