“I have seen My people suffer much in Egypt. I have heard My peoples’
cries. I have come down to rescue them and, now, Moses, I am sending
you back to Egypt!”
Acts 7:34 (Simple English Bible)

It wasn’t exactly an opportune moment for Moses. He had fled Egypt
after murdering an Eyptian overseer who was beating a Hebrew and he
feared for his life. For the past forty years, he had been keeping a
very low profile in Midian, probably very content with what he was
doing. But God had different plans and different goals for the errant
murderer.

God hears the cries of His people. He may not respond right away or
even give an indication that He has heard. The situation in Egypt was
dire and at the right time, God approached the right man for the right
job. It seems strange that for the past four decades, Moses had been a
shepherd. It was precisely what was needed to lead God’s people out of
slavery and captivity. I don’t think Moses was all that crazy about
going back but God had called and Moses went.

You and I might have similar concerns in our situations. We might have
prayed for a long time without an apparent response. Or, other people
have been praying in their turmoil and sorrow. Perhaps God wants you
and me to see to their needs. And maybe, we don’t want to respond all
that quickly. But when we pray for help, we expect assistance right
away!

There might be someone you know right now that needs your help. Maybe
a prayer or a smile. Perhaps food or a ride to the doctor. And they
may have been waiting for awhile. Are you willing to go?

Steve
