“For God’s glory, accept one another as Christ accepted you.” Rom 15:7 (Simple English Bible)
Society seems more fractionated today than it did a few decades ago. People want to be identified with a particular group. Folks are hunting down their ancestors and going for DNA testing to see where their roots are. Nationalities appear to be more of a label and cause for conflict than a fact of life. And anyway, patriotism seems to be a peculiar type of loyalty to a geographical boundary.
It isn’t this way in God’s family. We are instructed to accept one another no matter where we come from, what language we speak or ethnicity. We are all God’s children, included by virtue of our faith and obedience to His Son. But it doesn’t end there.
For God’s glory, we accept one another. This isn’t a personal benefit — what do I get out of it, huh? — but a realization that we are all sinners, we are all forgiven and we have already been accepted by God! None of us have any reason to point a finger at another. Since we all want to glorify our Father, then we should be more forgiving, more loyal, more helpful and more understanding of our fellow Christians.
We have been accepted because God loved us so much that He sent His Son. We accept others because we return this love to our Father for His glory.
