Friday’s Thought 8/7

“In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday!” A wise man

It was a Bad Hair Day… normally, I try to keep a perspective on what happens when my carefully planned day gets graunched in the middle of a madder, more insane universe, which has a totally different agenda. I am sure you’ve also experienced this.

I get to get the tire fixed — a nail was stuck firmly in the tread. I am preparing for a guest from Florida who will be working with us for the next two weeks. There is shopping to do to stock the fridge. Banking. Mailing. Buy electricity, which was running periously low. Pay the phone. And so forth. A busy day and an evening to be spend with Christian friends to celebrate a birthday of a pastor.

I got up especially early. Skipped breakfast, chowed a banana before dodging the rain to start the car. It didn’t start. I am a man who has two tools in my box — a screwdriver and if that doesn’t work, a hammer. After looking fruitless and cluelessly under the hood, I decided neither was needed. And scouring the phone book, would there be an autoelectrician in the vicinity who’d make housecalls. Yes, found one! He got the Renault started and I followed him 8 miles outside Durbanville into the middle of the farmlands. I waited until someone could give me a ride back to the village.

Afrer getting out of the van in the rain, I scuttled across the street and walked halfway home before I realized that one of my warm leather gloves had slipped out of my pocket. It was a prized possession — lamb’s leather gloves which I bought in Poland as a gift for myself! I was without transport for the whole day so I had to walk down to the village again to pay the phone, buy electricity…..and so forth.

A phone call late in the afternoon confirmed the Bad News: a new starter motor cost $800. The electricial was scouting the city to find one to fit the car. The birthday celebration was blown and I hadn’t done half of what I intended. I mistakenly listed the Thought for the Day yesterday as Friday’s. Was the whole world out of whack or just me?

But it was a blessed day. God gave Cape Town the blessings of His rain, which is needed to survive the hot summer. I talked to Christians on the phone at leisure, making plans to work together and encourage one another. I read my Bible without haste or pre-occupation. I confided in the Lord.

Yesterday is gone. I am still here. My Father has watched over me and blessed me for another day.

Praise Him!

Steve
