Thoughts: The truth is not here to make you comfortable

“He said, Look! I see heaven open and I see the Son of Man standing at God’s right side!” Acts 7:56 (Simple English Bible)

Stephen was the first Christian martyr, stoned to death outside the gates of Jerusalem. The Jewish leaders were so enraged by his words that they killed him. Luke wrote in the Book of Acts that they tried to stop hearing what Stephen had to say by clamping their hands over their ears.

The truth penetrates skin, muscle and bone. The truth is devastating, scathing and unrelenting. The truth always stands no matter how much men try and distort and twist it to their own ideas of what the Bible says. The truth never fails. The truth separates falsehood from reality. The truth is never wrong, never weak and never takes a vacation. If you are searching for it, you will always find the truth.

Stephen spoke the truth. One of final things which he saw before he died was Christ at the right hand of God, the Father. It was too much to bear for many standing around him. The Jewish leaders had murdered Jesus and thought that once He was gone, things would get back to normal. Their world could revert to the status quo before the carpenter’s son from Galilee spoke the truth to all who would listen.

The truth is not here to make you comfortable. It is not here to let you off the hook. It is not here so that you and I will be “right”.

The truth is here for our salvation.

Provided we hear and obey.

Steve
