Friday – They were eventually thrown out of the hall

“If you truly desire to do right, who will hurt you? But even if you should suffer because you are doing right, you should be happy. Don’t be upset. Don’t be afraid like they are afraid.” I Pet 3:13-14 (Simple English Bible)

He was a Christian and accompanied his friend to a dance hall. The friend got drunk and became rowdy, evidently trying to flirt with another man’s girlfriend. They were eventually thrown out of the hall and continued their argument outside in the street. The Christian tried to break them apart and was stabbed for his trouble. Even his friend wasn’t impressed, telling anyone who would hear that it was his fight and he didn’t need anyone to stand up for him! The Christian spent a few days in hospital after surgery and stayed close to his friend. Everybody thought the Christan man was crazy.

Sometimes, in our most earnest moment, we will be taken advantage of, ridiculed or even have our helpfulness rejected. We might sincerely want to render assistance or advice but be told that we’re not needed. This might cause us to become angry, disappointed or discouraged. Peter wrote to show us that even if this happens, we should be happy! At least we offered when no one else did. Our desire was to help someone even if our attempt was pushed aside.

Every day, I believe God provides us with opportunities. The fact that our help is not wanted, doesn’t lessen the sincerity and love we have to give what is needed.

And God blesses us, despite it all!

Steve
