Monday – America is going through the same trauma

“We should always thank God for you, brethren, we really should because your faith is growing fast. The love that each of you has for another another is also becoming stronger. So among God’s congregations, we are proud of you. You are going through persecutions and troubles. We tell them how you still believe and endure.” II Thess 1:3-4 (Simple English Bible)

Wait a minute here, just hold on! I don’t get it — Paul wrote that the churches in Thessalonika were facing persecutions and troubles of all kinds. They were being hounded and mocked. This should put them under severe pressure and perhaps even make them defensive and angry. After all, it certainly seemed that they had done nothing to deserve this. So how can Paul say that their faith is growing fast? Why on earth would he write such a thing in the face of their problems?

It seems to me that America is going through the same trauma. Christians are increasingly being persecuted for taking a stand against immorality and outright sin. With all the economic problems snapping at their heels, the situation must have been worsened, right? Are you with me on this?

So, what’s the lesson here? Is there any reason to become more loving, more caring, more faithful, more dedicated? ABSOLUTOOTLE DOODLE! (As my sons used to say.)

Faith is a choice. A decision Christians make every waking morning. Faith grows stronger in times of turmoil and trouble. Faith is the very bedrock of who we are and in Whom we believe. Faith blossoms into love for each and every Christian. We are all in the same boat, even if the world tries to take out a huge bite.

Remain faithful! Stay strong! The Lord is on our side!

Steve
