“Morals today are corrupted by our worship of riches and power.” Cicero
Did the Roman writer know something we didn’t? Even in his day, society was being eroded by those seeking fame, wealth and power. When there is a blind rush towards anything that glitters, whether it is the media spotlight, a pot of gold or a security pass to political office, then watch out! You could be trampled in the crush!
A Christian man I knew compromised his beliefs even though he knew it was wrong. His son “came out” and admitted he was homosexual. Previous, my Christian friend would not tolerate such behavior in his house. Now, he says there is really nothing wrong with it as long as any two people are in love and commit to each other. I know he loves his son but has now tolerated sin. Strangely, he is pro-gay but anti-divorce even if those two people left their spouses and married another!
Our vision and commitment has to be clear. First, it should be clear to us what we believe and why we believe it. Yes, there are unknowns in our lives and we might have to take a stand solely based upon faith. Second, we must be clear to our families, relatives and friends. They should understand that we are people of the Word, the Truth. Third, the world must know how clear and committed our faith in Christ pervades every aspect of our lives. There are limits. There are places we will not go.
Some things are never negotiable.
Steve
