Location For New Storage Building – Progress Report

November 18, 2009

in News

Things’re moving real fast at “Anathoth”! I feel like I’ve fallen down the Rabbit Hole like Alice, compared to the tortoise like movements of the previous twenty months.

Here’s the progress in the past ten days.

1. The building plans are finally approved.
2. The old brick structure which housed animals was removed — the bricks and roofing donated to the workers. (We saved some money this way — they tore it down and were paid with the materials.) See pix Storage #1 and #2.
3. A big leaning pine tree was cut down and all the wood removed (cost:  $300 including chainsaw rental and five laborers, a hard day’s work). See pix Ana Tr, Pa 5
4. A bulldozer scoured and clean the ground, filled the holes and making it ready for the foundations (cost:  $100).

Progress for until next week:

5. The foundation footings are being dug this week.
6. The building inspector from the municipality will do his inspection on Friday.
7. Next week, the concrete will be poured.

I have hired a builder, a pastor from one of the local churches, to do the entire foundation structure, including the floor slab. He is using local labor to save costs. Also, a person friend in the roofing business has permitted us to use his company to buy all the materials needed for the building at a reduced cost! I have deposited money in both of their accounts so they can making drawings, backed up by invoices. Then, at each stage, I’ll deposit more money until it is again drawn. This will continue until the building is finished or we run out of funds!

So, Mark, it is all happening now! I can hardly believe it.

With the current funds, we can probably complete the foundations. One disappointment was that the municipality re-introduced steel I-bars unto fourteen columns, which has increased out cost in materials and labor. We now are about $5000 more expensive but I’m working hard to keep all the costs down.
