“You have followed my teaching, my life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love and my endurance. II Tim 3:10 (Simple English Bible)
They are arguing about whether or not to conduct a Nativity for December. Most members of the church wanted to have it, as per usual; others wanted something different; and many didn’t see the purpose of having it at all. The back-and-forth discussions became quite heated and the elders were called in to quell the debates and accusations. It seemed that the whole congregation was in a uproar over a relatively simple plan for the approaching season of Good Will and Peace Towards All Men. Angry words were spoken, people started shouting.
I have always been impressed with the example that Paul set for the young minister, Timothy. Although he was imprisoned in Roman confinement, the apostle never stopped preaching and teaching the gospel. The character of the man was remarkable and he endured it all for Christ’s sake. It didn’t seem as if Paul was sidetracked by petty issues of opinion or inconsequential debates. He was more concerned that the message of Jesus taught and preached with patience, love and endurance. His love for Christ ensured that his purpose was true.
If I had to ask myself honestly in the mirror early one morning before anybody else used the bathroom, what of these traits of Paul I had, I think I’d blush with shame.
How about you?
Steve
