“I’ve often wondered if my life would have been any different had I been born one day sooner. Probably not, except that I would be asking the same question one day earlier!” Steven Wright
I have been exposed to many different cultures, languages and local traditions over the years. Some I found very strange, others pleasing and a few down right distasteful. I realize that we live in a vastly diversified world and everyone has their own idea of what is socially acceptable and what isn’t. As a guest in a foreign country, I try to be respectful of their society and represent my country in a good light, too. A number of times, I have been incensed by my countrymen who had acted boorishly or rudely to people of different cultures. I have to bite my tongue before I cut loose.
But has mankind really changed that much? If I read the New Testament and the reactions of people to Christ’s ministry or Paul’s journey’s, I find similar attitudes and behaviors. Sin is always sin. no matter what culture, tradition or ethnic group. Our needs are basically the same: food, shelter, security and…..love! Despite our differences, we are the same. We’re humans, we’re all God’s creation, we’re able to attain greatness as a child of our Father if we obey Him.
I need to be constantly reminded of this when I meet people so different than I am.
