The flight to South Africa started with a car trip out of Lima Ohio around 11 am. We wanted to make sure that there was plenty of time to get to the airport, find the right terminal, grab some food and still get through security. Especially after all the scare at the Detroit Airport round Christmas.
WE made good time and ate a few bits at the local Subway. It was easy finding and getting into the airport. Check-in was a breeze as I was able to check-in online. Scanned my Passport and it printed off my boarding tickets. The lady took the baggage and it was time to say good-bye. It was a bitter sweet moment as I already miss my family but the excitement of the adventure helped me to focus on what was ahead.
It wasn’t overly busy as it was an earlier flight and was mid-week. So security was a breeze and off the wait at the KLM terminal. We boarded and I was assigned a window seat so was able to watch the sun go down. No one was next to me so I was able to spread out a bit in the economy section which made it easy. The trip winged over Canada and just south of Greenland and then over England.
It’s 6 am here and already the sun is about to rise in a few hours. My flight doesn’t take off until 10:25 am Amsterdam time or about 4:25 am Ohio time. In the meantime I am thankful that the internet works here and is free at the airport so I can send off a few lines so you know what’s going on.
The trip ahead is going to be long and will arrive sometime late tonight South African time. Of course I will post more as it develops and look forward to your comments. I will be posting on my facebook site some more pictures.
