“We live by believing, not by seeing.” II Cor 5:7 (Simple English Bible)
I can’t remember which one of my sons asked about a sick friend. My son said that he had prayed for his friend and wanted to know why God didn’t heal his friend right away like Jesus did in the New Testament. It was a tricky explanation — my son was too young to understand and too old not to say something. This was the verse than came to mind. I said that sometimes, the things we wanted to see weren’t the same things God wanted to see in us. We expect miracles and wonderful things. God expects us to believe and be faithful to him. I assured my son that God still healed people but it was up to us to insure that we always believe in Him. My son nodded and said that made sense.
I know that it’s difficult to live in a physical world and not expect good things for our families and ourselves. We are tempted by what we see and our minds sometimes are focused on the world. We worry about paying bills, retirement, unemployment, education and crime. These are real problems, I know, but our faith is always in our Father.
No matter what.
So I guess we’d better start living like we believe this, right?
Steve
