“Words are clothes for thoughts!” A wise man
The boy was in the principal’s office for talking back to the teacher using foul language. When questioned, the boy said he thought his words weren’t quite right but didn’t think much more about it. The principal asked the boy where he’d heard such language used — in the playground, among his playmates, by adults? No, answered the boy, I learned it at home.
Should we be careful what we say and how we say it? Some Christians believe that bluntness is preferable. It avoids misunderstandings and gets the point across right away without haggling over details. Others believe that we must’ve be so direct or politically incorrect with people. We should show love and constraint. I must confess that I lean towards the forthrightness end of the spectrum. There aren’t many Christians who don’t understand what sin and evilness are. Excuses for bad behavior and selfish Christians are just that — excuses!
Let’s speak as our Lord did and be careful how we clothe our words today.
