“It’s not that Christian’s don’t care about Jesus — they just don’t care enough!” Anon pastor.
Bro Thomas has been trying to organize a clothing drive within his congregation. Being winter in the Cape, it is cold, wet and rainy most of the time. Shack dwellers and homeless often become very ill and clog the clinics and hospitals. Tom’s idea was to try and help those in need by requesting blankets, old clothes, shoes and anything else that would be useful. Over the past month, he spoke privately with Christians, asked for volunteers and even cleaned out his own closets at home to get the ball rolling. The response was pathetic. In the parking lot of the church are Mercedes, Audi’s, Polo’s and Camry’s. Everyone is dressed in fine clothes. But they don’t seem to care about anything beyond their own horizon.
Jesus condemned a whole bunch of people at the end of Matt 25. Not because they were killers, drug dealers, adulterers or cheaters but because they didn’t care about the plight of the sick, homeless, helpless and strangers.
Bro Thomas wonders what will become of the Christians in his congregation. He is even seriously doubting the value of his leadership! There are a few, so very few, who have responded but like the narrow gate, only that few will find it.
I think I want to be part of that group. Don’t you?
Steve
