“Dear friends, I beg you. You are only visitors here on earth for a short time. Put away human evil desires. These things make war with the soul.” I Pet 2:11 (Simple English Bible)
Nobody really wants to admit it but our stay on the surface of the third planet from the sun is temporary. We live each day as if it will last until we put our heads on the pillow and nod off tiredly. We anticipate that we will the next morning, fit and hale, our day planned ahead of time, anticipating good things. Our demise is somewhere in the vague future — a time and place which we cannot appreciate during this moment of thought.
The apostle Peter warned Christians that our stay is short and we are at war. The conflict isn’t in politics, social reform, the health care system or with a foreign country. The battle is for our spiritual selves, our very souls. It is waged everyday and we are to be vigilant and ready, armed with the sword of truth and the armor of righteousness. Christianity isn’t a relaxed lifestyle but a battle for eternal life.
Evil desires and wickedness will mark our souls. It will harm us. But we have a Savior who will stand with us in any and all circumstances! Our faith will keep us steady and strong in the battle.
We are more than victors with Jesus!
Steve
