Kuilsriver, Cape Town One of the styles of houses in the Cape is this one — a gabled thatched home with thick walls, painted with white lye. Most of the historic homes from the 1800′s an earlier are now national monuments, including this one on the vineyard farm, Zewenwacht (“seventh Watch”).

In 2009, during heavy swells, a Turkish flagged freighter, the “Silu” ran aground on Blouberg Beach in Cape Town. The waves in Table Bay were powerful and the vessel engines broke down.
